History
First Publication of Igaku Chuo Zasshi and Shiro Amako

Igaku Chuo Zasshi was first published in 1903.

After graduating from the Hiroshima Medical School, the founder, Shiro Amako, devoted himself to the establishment of the Geibi Medical Society (currently, the Hiroshima Medical Society). In 1903, he opened a clinic in Yanaka, Tokyo, and moved to Sendagi soon after. In the same year, he launched the Igaku Chuo Zasshi.
At that time, he was the family doctor and friend of Soseki Natsume, who lived in the same town. It is said that Shiro served as the model for "Dr. Amaki" in I am a CAT.
Succession of Business by Fujiro Amako

After the death of Shiro Amako, his eldest son, Fujiro Amako, assumed the position of representative director. Fujiro was a pioneer in Japanese geriatric medicine. As the chief physician at Yokufukai Hospital, he was involved in geriatric medicine research as well as clinical treatment. He committed himself to launching the Igaku Chuo Zasshi, and maintained its publication despite numerous difficulties during the war. He personally engaged in editing the journal and laid the foundation for business by adopting a "direct membership system."
Computer-aided Editing and Ichushi-CD

In order to cope with the ever-increasing volume of information accompanying the advancement of medicine, we have changed our system from manual typesetting to CTS (Computer Typesetting System) and introduced automated editing in-house.
We also launched the Ichushi-CD service to make searching through a large pool of data more efficient.
Widespread Use of Internet and Ichushi-Web

In 2000, we started the Ichushi-Web service. With the widespread use of the internet access, an environment was created that allows anyone to use the Ichushi Database anytime, anywhere. It has been upgraded four times since its release. In 2022, we carried out the fifth large-scale upgrade, marking a new step towards developing a web portal.
